"Special teachers and counselors at Sequoyah made a big difference in my education."

Olivia Wright

Students in Oklahoma have many progressive choices available in their high school years.  Many of our students attend local CareerTech centers; others attend college-level courses at Rogers State University and sometimes the University of Tulsa.  We have had quite a few students attend the Oklahoma School of Science and Math (OSSM) in Oklahoma City.  The most current terminology for this curriculum is “STEM” which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.  OSSM provides advanced education for a select number of students in their junior and senior years of high school.

Olivia Wright and her younger brother, Evan, attended Sequoyah High School.  Each of the Wright siblings had unique and amazing academic achievements.  Both of them were admired by classmates and were easily befriended.   As a sophomore, Olivia was elected class secretary, which is an indication of how well-respected she was by her Sequoyah classmates.  By the end of her sophomore year, she had been accepted to attend OSSM in Oklahoma City.  After high school, she earned a degree at Pittsburg State University.  (Evan Wright will be featured in an upcoming article)

Olivia Wright is now attending OU medical school in Oklahoma City.

In a current statement Olivia made regarding her time at Sequoyah, “I know for me, and I’m sure for Evan as well, that there were some very special teachers and counselors at Sequoyah that made a big difference in my education.  I cannot stress enough that without their help and dedication to academics, I would not be where I am today.  I owe them a lot!”
