"Sequoyah provided me with the academic preparation to perform with excellence at some of the best universities in the world."

Evan Wright

At the age of 5, he was a Sequoyah first grader.  When he was 15, he started his senior year of high school.  By the time he turned 20, he had two college degrees from the University of Tulsa.  Who is this academic wonder?

Sequoyah Public Schools has had many academically gifted students, but Evan Wright was the student several of our current teachers and administrators remember with a sense of awe.  Often conversations regarding former students who have done well, end with, “What is Evan doing these days?”

Evan Wright’s math abilities were so advanced that his parents, school administrators, and counselors were searching for ways to allow Evan to pursue his academic dreams before he entered junior high.  With the flexibility that Sequoyah allows advanced students, he was able to attend classes at TU and complete online course work through other Oklahoma universities.

He graduated from Sequoyah High School with the class of 2008 and began attending the University of Tulsa as a full-time student at the age of 16.   During his four years at TU, he was able to study abroad at the London School of Economics in London, UK.  He graduated from TU in May 2012, with B.S. degrees in Economics and Mathematics, summa cum laude.

Currently, Evan Wright is in his third year of a possible five or six year program of study in pursuit of a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Michigan.  His primary field of interest is industrial organization.  He studies how firms compete and organize to form a market which often leads to policy implications for antitrust regulation.

During the summer of 2013, he worked with two professors on a study of McDonald’s international expansion decisions or which countries McDonald’s chose to open restaurants.  With an interest in Finance, his current paper is an analysis of how and when consumers pledge to crowdfunding projects posted on sites like Kickstarter.com

Wright has gained teaching experience while attending the University of Michigan.  He has been a teaching assistant for the past two years, instructing sections of about thirty students in introductory and intermediate microeconomics.  He is currently more interested in a private sector career than in a professorship.

Evan Wright enjoys mountain biking in Michigan during the summers; the summers in Michigan are not as extreme as in Oklahoma.  He also participates in recreational shooting year-round and is particularly proud of owning a 1943 M1 Garand.  He does return to Oklahoma to visit family and often he and his family go to Arkansas to ride ATV’s.

“Sequoyah provided me with more than enough academic preparation to perform with excellence at some of the best universities in the world, and I couldn’t have hoped for a more welcoming community of quality faculty, staff, students, and friends with which to share my childhood.”  Evan Wright
