New for This School Year
Forensic Science
Sequoyah High School Science department will be presenting a new advanced science course in Forensic Science. Forensic Science will complement Sequoyah’s STEM curriculum that has been developing with great community support for many years. STEM is a new acronym for an old concept. STEM: science/technology/engineering/mathematics
The following areas of interest will be explored by Sequoyah’s Forensic students:
- The Nature and History of Forensic Science
- The Interviewing of Witnesses
- Ballistics and Tool Marks
- Glass, Fiber, and Textile analysis
- Blood types and Blood Splatter Patterns
- Search and Seizure Procedures and a Suspect’s Rights
- Finger Prints
- Toxicology and Drug Analysis
- Forensics Anthropology
- Dental Forensics
- Casts and Impressions
- Handwriting, Forgery, and Counterfeiting
The anticipated coursework will possibly include hands-on activities and class visits from current Forensic science professionals working in northeastern Oklahoma. In many ways this course will provide an integration of the other science classes currently offered: Physical Science, Chemistry, and Physics.
Sequoyah High School students were able to enroll in this new class. Currently, the new Forensics classes taught by Steven Harshfield are full for both of the next semesters.
