Dear Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back! I hope you and your family had a restful and enjoyable Christmas break. As we begin the new semester, I want to share what your student will be learning and what to expect moving forward in math class.

Over the next several weeks, we will be covering key topics such as functions, exponents, the Pythagorean Theorem, and other foundational skills that are essential for future success in mathematics. These concepts are especially important as students prepare for high school math and Algebra 1.

One major focus this semester will be helping students learn how to take their own notes. Students will be guided through different note-taking strategies and will be expected to actively record examples, definitions, and explanations during class. This is an important step in building independence, organization, and study skills that will be expected of them in high school.

Please encourage your student to:

  • Bring the necessary materials daily

  • Keep their notes organized

  • Ask questions when they need clarification

Thank you for your continued support at home. If you ever have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out. I look forward to a productive and successful semester with your students!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Dorsey

In-School Tutoring:

Our in-school math tutor is available daily during 2nd through 6th hour, as well as 1st and 2nd lunch, to provide extra academic support. I strongly encourage students to take advantage of this resource if they feel they need additional help or clarification on any topic we cover in class. Students are also welcome to attend tutoring during math class work time when appropriate. Tutoring is a great opportunity for students to build confidence, ask questions, and strengthen their understanding in a supportive environment.

Additional Support Resources

I highly recommend checking out the YayMath YouTube channel. It provides excellent support for students who need extra help or a refresher on various topics. It can be a great resource to complement what we’re doing in class.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
