Summer just always seems to fly by with all of the nice weather and fun family experiences together. It is so exciting to be back in the school routine. I know we are still having some tears and sad kiddos as they come to school, but I assure you that will not last long. We believe whole heartedly in having fun while we learn. Open House was a great success. It was definitely a packed house…one hour is becoming too short of a time with as many supportive families as we have attending.

Remember that we have started our second week of school, so by next week, our students should be walking themselves to class without any parents in the halls. Safety is very important to us. Any visitors, including family members, must report to our receptionist’s office to sign in and get a visitor’s badge when you need to go any further in our building for any reason. You will also need a photo ID, if the receptionist does not recognize you or if we have other concerns.

If you are dropping off your child you may begin this process at 8:00 a.m. NO students are allowed in the buildings before 8 am. You may see staff children or our Safety Patrol students entering early, but not traditional students. If you are picking them up at the end of the day, then you must be in line by 3:10 pm. Right now, it is taking a bit longer for our little ones and their families to learn the pick-up routine. Eventually, we are loading our last pick-up kiddo at 3:15pm. Remember to not get out of your car, and to pull forward from the line and stop at the end of the parking lot, if you need to help your child buckle up. You can imagine how long we would be here if just 50 of our cars took an extra 2 minutes to buckle up while in line.  For the safety of your child it is vital that you follow these times.  Teachers do not report until 8:00 am. This is 25 minutes before class begins. All 1st and 2nd grade students will go directly to the playground, and there are no teachers out there until 8 am. All PreK and kindergarten students report straight to their classrooms.

Any transportation changes must be written on a note and given to your child’s teacher or you may call our receptionist, Tiffany Goodwin, and she will notify the teacher.  Please understand we will not be able to make changes any other way.  Students will not be allowed to verbally notify their teacher of changes.  If you are calling to make a change you must notify Mrs. Goodwin by 2:00 p.m.  We will not be able to make any changes after that time. Once we are at that 2 o’clock mark the notes go to the teachers. Safety is #1, and we cannot make last minute changes with approximately 670 elementary students to get where they need to be by 3 pm.

We have begun some of our important safety drills. So if your child(ren) tell you about such, then please know we are just practicing our safety in the rare chance of an emergency situation.

Please continue to check the calendar on our website for upcoming events at Sequoyah Elementary or download our Sequoyah School app.  On our website, you can also sign up for email updates.

Keep those Box Tops, Best Choice upc’s and Tyson labels rolling in!  These programs have been very successful thanks to the support of our parents.  It is amazing how much money accumulates with even those little 10 cent Box Tops. Get your family members and friends to help make this coming year the biggest collection ever. You can send them with your child(ren) or drop them at the front office.

If you every have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us, 918-341-6111.
