Dear Parents,

Once again thank you for sharing your most precious possession with us. This year is going by quickly. We just wrapped up basketball and archery and are getting ready for our state competitions in academic team and STEM. Baseball, track, and trap are getting ready to start. Hopefully your child is participating in at least one of the many extracurricular activities offered here at Sequoyah Middle School.

The flu is hitting schools hard and any help we can get from our Sequoyah families is greatly appreciated. While we do offer incentives for attendance, your child’s health as well as the health of other children is not worth the incentive.

I know this is a scary time for many parents and students as they watch the news and see the violence that is occurring in schools around our country. We have been very blessed here at Sequoyah with students who are not afraid to report things that they hear and see. Your communication with your student and with the school is key in keeping our kids and community safe. Please continue to stress this with your kids. Here at Sequoyah Middle School we work really hard to have an open line of communication with our kids. As a result we are usually aware of situations before they have a chance to develop. We try very hard to create a safe as well as a welcoming atmosphere here at SMS. We appreciate the strong sense of moral responsible that has been instilled in so many of our kids. Thank you for that.

Almost three fourths of the school year is behind us andin addition to our daily efforts to meet all state standards, we are also beginning test preparation and practice. This is traditionally the time of year that some students start to shut down a little.  I encourage you to keep up with your student’s grades and classroom activities. Please visit our website and under the faculty link click on your child’s teacher and you can see what is going on in your child’s class. I also encourage you to log into your student’s grades and help us as we endeavor to hold them accountable and prepare them for life after SMS.
