What's Happening in the Lower...

Welcome back!

I hope that your family enjoyed many great holiday happenings and made lasting memories. I had a great time with my family and enjoyed the weather. Now we are all trying to get everyone back in the routine when returning to school for 2nd semester. Here at the Lower we have been doing just that with trying to get our students back to the classroom routines.

Our 1st semester ended just as we left for Christmas Break. It is hard to believe, but that means that we have begun our second half of the school year. Report cards for 1st semester will be sent home throughout the district on Thursday, January 16th. Be on the lookout for your child’s report card.

We have several safety drills coming up that we are required to practice and want our children and staff prepared for, in case of an emergency. Examples of drills include bus evacuation practice, fire drill, and tornado drill, as a staff, we also discuss procedures for lockdown situations. Most of these drills we practice and/or discuss multiple times in the year to ensure safety procedures are always in place!

Important Dates to Remember:

January 13th – 16th - Vision Screenings for all of our elementary students. Be on the lookout for notes about the screening.

Monday, January 13th - Eagle Pass (PTO) meeting at 5 pm, in the elementary.

Tuesday, January 14th – Yearbooks go on sale!!!  We will send a yearbook order form home for you to fill out and send back to your child’s teacher by January 30th.  Extra yearbooks will NOT be ordered, so get yours reserved now.

Monday, January 20th  – NO SCHOOL

Tuesday, January 27th  – Begin scheduling for February 10th and 11th Parent - Teacher Conferences

Friday, January 24th – Box Top Drawing…keep clipping and sending your Box Tops!

Winter weather and school closings due to snow or ice are likely.  Dr. Saul, our superintendent, always notifies the television stations for Channel 2, 6, 8, and 23, also radio stations KRMG – AM 740 and FM 102.3, when this decision is made, so please tune into one of these stations for school closings.  We try not to dismiss during the school day, but please make sure you have “Plan B” in place for your child’s transportation, should we have to make this call.  We only dismiss early if the weather is deteriorating the road conditions too rapidly and becoming a safety hazard to finish our full day of school. If they are a bus rider, someone needs to be at home and available for them when they are dropped off early.  You are also welcome to call the school and make a transportation change if necessary.

Please make sure you check the calendar on the website for upcoming events at Sequoyah Elementary.
