Students in Mrs. Vanna Owens class recently engaged in an archeology dig. Students held discussions about the past through hands-on artifacts and archeology, not just through books. They drew inferences on who may have used them and for what purpose. This was an introduction to the nonfiction story about the historical mystery of the colony of Roanoke, in which an entire colony of people went missing and has never been found. . . .

Rock Your School Day

Recently Sequoyah 4th graders participated in a national "Rock Your School Day" with thousands of other classrooms across the world. They participated in Toy Story themed activities throughout their day. Teachers transformed each of their classrooms to look like a scene from the movie. The students did Pizza Planet math with adding and subtracting decimals; practiced geography skills with coordinate grids; completed reading . . .
