Middle School Principal's Message

Dear Sequoyah parents and patrons,

It’s hard to believe but over half of the school year is already gone. We have a very high percentage of our kids here doing face-to-face learning. Our kids are doing great wearing masks and following safety procedures. With everyone doing their part hopefully we will keep the doors open and be able to experience the many extracurricular activities that we all enjoy. We are getting ready for a very hectic time of year.Academic team, archery basketball, trap, track, and baseball will be starting in January. Our event attendance may be altered to allow for social distancing but we will make every effort to assure parents are able to watch the events. Please understand and help us by wearing masks when in attendance. In addition to all of these concerns and distractions we will still be doing state testing in the spring.  State testing will begin in April and run through the early part of May.

With all the distractions sometimes it is easy to lose sight of some of the really important things. Sometimes after a late night at one of these events it is tempting to get a little extra sleep and miss school the next day. Please remember attendance, grades, and test scores all go hand in hand. We can’t teach kids and they can’t learn if they’re not here. Keep your kids home if they’re not feeling well, but other than that it’s important that they are present as much as possible. Remember when they do have to miss school students can access their class work from home on Google Classroom. With that being said it takes all of us, as a team, to ensure success. Parents, students, families, and schools have to work together. Please help us help your students. February Parent/teacher conferences will be via phone in order to limit exposure as much as possible. Kids tend to work harder if they know their parents and teachers are communicating and working together. Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to work with your kids.
